How car sourcing works: find a specific car anywhere in the U.S.

Car sourcing at Xuma Auto: build the exact spec, we search dealer networks, auctions and private sellers across the U.S., and you approve each car we find.

· Facts checked October 18, 2026

Car sourcing is a simple arrangement: you describe the exact car you want, Xuma finds it, and you approve it. On /sourcing you build the spec in ten steps — make, model, years, version or trim, exterior and interior, packages and options, budget and timing — and send it. We search dealer networks, auctions and private sellers across the U.S., email you each car we find with photos and the price, and you either approve it or tell us what to change.

When sourcing makes sense

Sourcing is for when the configuration matters more than what is on a lot this week: a specific paint and interior, a package the car has to have, a range of model years, a mileage cap. If something on cars for sale already fits, buy from stock. If it doesn't, build the car.

The ten steps on /sourcing

  1. Make. Every make sold in the U.S. since 2000, from the EPA's fuel-economy dataset, refreshed monthly. The makes we sell most are listed first.
  2. Model. The make's models, with the years each one was sold in the U.S.
  3. New or pre-owned, and years. New, pre-owned or either; a first and last model year, or leave either open; a maximum mileage.
  4. Version or trim. For every model, the versions on file with engine, gearbox and drive. For the Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin models we source most, and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the factory trims by year. Not sure? Choose “Not sure — advise me” and tell us how you'll use the car.
  5. Exterior. The factory paint colors for those models, with the finish; a color family for everything else, plus a note for a specific paint.
  6. Interior. The factory interiors where we have them; otherwise a color and a material, plus a note.
  7. Packages and options. The factory packages and options with the manufacturer's own descriptions, where they're on file. Then three lists in your own words: must-haves, nice-to-haves, and what rules a car out (no accident history, no aftermarket parts, no wrapped cars).
  8. Budget and timing. A range before tax and tag; when you want the car (as soon as possible, within 30 days, within 90 days, no rush); whether we send this spec only or close matches too; pick up in Miami or ship it to you.
  9. Contact. Name, email, phone, and how you'd like to be reached: email, a call, WhatsApp or a text.
  10. Review. Your build exactly as we'll receive it. Edit anything, then send.

The configurator only offers what's in the catalog: versions from the EPA data; trims, colors and options from the manufacturers' own material. Nothing is invented, so if what you want isn't listed, type it under must-haves. The build is saved in your browser for two weeks, so you can leave and come back.

What happens after you send

  • You get a copy by email, with a reference number and a link to your request page.
  • We search dealer networks, auctions and private sellers across the U.S. for your spec.
  • Each car we find is emailed to you with photos and the price, and appears on your request page.
  • You approve the car, or ask for changes with a note — lower mileage, a different color, closer to your budget. If you ask for changes, we go back to searching.
  • Once you approve a car, we're in touch to finish up.

Confirming a car is the spec you asked for

Before you approve, compare three things with your build. The VIN decode gives the year, make, model and engine; Xuma's own VIN lookup uses the NHTSA decoder for this. The photos show the paint and the interior. The window sticker or build sheet, when the seller has it, lists the packages and options. If any of the three doesn't match, ask for changes and say which.

Checks before you approve

A sourced car is still a used car. Run the checks from our guide on buying a used car in Miami:

  • The title brand. On a Florida title: Salvage Rebuildable, Rebuilt or Flood Damaged (FLHSMV procedure TL-37). Under Fla. Stat. 319.30, salvage means a total loss.
  • The NMVTIS history. Current title information, brand history, the latest reported odometer reading and insurers' total-loss reports. Not every state reports, so a clean report can be a false negative.
  • Open recalls by VIN at NHTSA.

Xuma has its own mechanic and inspectors. Ask us what can be checked on a specific car before you approve it.

If you live outside Florida

Xuma delivers anywhere in the U.S. On sales tax, the Florida Department of Revenue's rules: if your state's rate is below 6%, you can pay Florida tax at your home-state rate by taking delivery in Florida, giving the dealer a notarized Form DR-123 at the time of sale and registering the car at home within 45 days. If your state's rate is 6% or higher, Florida collects the full 6%. If the dealer delivers the car to you outside Florida, or to a carrier for shipment out of state, the sale is exempt from Florida tax, with documentation the dealer keeps — and your home state may still tax you. Rules change; check the official source or ask a tax adviser.
